Janice Ferebee, MSW, is an internationally recognized author, speaker, and global female empowerment expert, with a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2). She is the founder & CWW (Chief Woman Warrior) of Ferebee Enterprises International, LLC, a global female empowerment social enterprise.  With over 40 years' expertise, Janice has the distinction of being recognized by Oprah and ESSENCE Magazine for her award-winning GOT IT GOIN' ON® (GIGO) empowerment brand for girls of color, and, she was the first Models Editor of African descent for Seventeen Magazine. She is a Stage IIb fallopian tube cancer survivor blessed with 25+ years of long-term recovery from drug and alcohol use.  She has turned her unique personal and professional life experiences into tools to help women of color, and organizations and institutions that employ & serve them, find their voices and create blueprints for their lives; AND, parents, practitioners and leaders of girl-serving organizations, to empower girls of color to build confidence and cultural pride, and, develop personal action plans for their lives.  

 

Janice's authenticity and uncanny ability to connect with a wide range of audiences has made her an engaging, sought after "go-to" expert, MC and speaker, on women and girls' empowerment and health and wellness (including cancer, addiction & recovery); and, the legacy of the FEREBEE FAMILY, including great aunt, Dr. Dorothy Boulding Ferebee (DC physician, civil rights activist, and international humanitarian, featured in the National Museum of African American History & Culture/NMAAHC).  Janice has presented at events and conferences, internationally, and consulted with organizations including the DC Metropolitan Police Department, Child Welfare Society, Johannesburg, South Africa, the Holton-Arms School, the Mansion-Music Room at Strathmore, the University of Pennsylvania, the United Nations, and, the Women’s Information Network. She has provided media commentary on radio and television on the topics of women and girls’ self-esteem, media exploitation, addiction & recovery, and, surviving cancer.  

 

As an extremely passionate individual, she knows firsthand the importance of healthy habits, and the effects that fear and low self- esteem can have on women and girls. Her journey through cancer and substance abuse, and, the transformation that led to her 25+ years of long-term recovery, and 7 years in remission, fuels her efforts to steer women and girls of color in a positive direction. 

Ms. Ferebee is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Mary McLeod Bethune Council House National Historic Site Advisory Commission, a Washington, DC Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for Single Member District 2F08, and, she is a Certified Docent at the historic NMAAHC.  She is a former member of the UPENN SP2 Dean's Advisory Council, and DC Commission for Women. She speaks to audiences around the world and it's been said that everyone who hears her leaves more uplifted than when they came.
